"Stres"
tension and compression.

Stres is a project that applies the principles of tension and compression to modern furniture. This piece is one of three projects that belong to a set of biomimicry inspired design.

​

The table features eight walnut legs adorned with brass inserts, topped with rubber feet for grip. The central part is a 3D printed component that holds all eight legs in place. A nylon cord is strung through the brass inserts to pull the legs together.

​

The assembly of the table is done without screws and glue, rather by cord and the forces of tension and compression. The cord compresses the wooden legs into the table while under tension.

​

The design of the table is inspired by the pose of a jumping spider when it experiences stress, as shown in the image below.
