Splay is a project that applies the principles of tension and compression to modern furniture. This piece is one of three projects that belong to a set of biomimicry inspired design.

The hanging lamp is designed similarly to Stres, in that it resembles the jumping spider, this time in air. Nylon cords are used similarly, to hold the arms of the lamp together, but to also serve a functional purpose.

When the dimming adjustment cord is pulled, the lamp collapses in form and dims via electronically controlled LEDs. If the brightening adjustment cord is pulled, the lamp expands to a splayed out shape, increasing in overall form and brightness.
